MONGOLIA’S “CHRYSANTEMUM CHARM” FLORAL DISPLAY LAUNCHED IN SINGAPORE
On 29 September 2023, a floral display ‘Chrysantemum Charm’ was officially launched by Gardens by the Bay in collaboration with the Embassy of Mongolia in Singapore at Flower Dome of the Gardens. The exposition was opened by H.E. Mr. Sosorbaram Enkhbayar, Ambassador of Mongolia to the Republic of Singapore and Mr. Felix Loh, CEO of Gardens by the Bay in presence of the guest of honour, the Hon. Dr. Mohamad Maliki Osman, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Education and Foreign Affairs. Over 190 guests including representatives from government ministries and agencies, private sector, diplomatic corps, as well as members of the Mongolian community in Singapore and the Phillipines attended the opening ceremony of this event, which showcases Mongolian culture and traditional nomadic lifestyle.
The floral display features Mongolian flora including 80 varieties of diverse chrysanthemums interspersed with dianthus, asters, as well as Mongolia’s national flower, scabiosa. The blooms were planted by florists from Gardens by the Bay who had specifically travelled to Mongolia in June 2023 to prepare for the event. Other attractions of the exposition include an authentic life-sized Mongolian ger, as well as collection of Mongolian national dresses and costumes. In addition, replicas of a herdsman walking his horse near Ulaan Tsutgalan (Red waterfall) waterfall, one of the most picturesque sights in Mongolia, as well as five types of livestock of Mongolian herdsmen were put on display.
The opening event featured performances by Mongolian folk artists and contortionists, while the guests were presented with tablets of their names written in Mongolian calligraphy. The event was co-sponsored by Mongolian e-platform, TalentSnipe, and national air flag carrier, MIAT Mongolian Airlines.
The “Chrysantemum Charm” will be open to public until 13 November 2023. Since 4.2 million tourists visit Gardens by the Bay each year out of 14 million visitors to Singapore, it is expected that the Mongolian floral display will attract around 500 thousand of visitors.
