PARTICIPATION IN THE 11TH ASEAN STRATEGIC POLICY DIALOGUE ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT

The 11th ASEAN Strategic Policy Dialogue on Disaster Management (SPDDM 2026) was held in Singapore on 19 August 2026 under the theme “A Decade of One ASEAN, One Response: Reimagining the ASEAN Model for Collective Disaster Response.” H.E. Dr Uyanga Ganbold, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the Republic of Singapore, attended the event.

The dialogue was jointly organised by the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre). It brought together representatives of ASEAN Member States, international and regional organisations, humanitarian and civil society organisations, academia, and the private sector.

Participants reviewed ten years of implementation of the “One ASEAN, One Response” Declaration and assessed progress in regional disaster response, humanitarian assistance and logistics systems. They also exchanged views on the use of artificial intelligence, big data and real-time information for disaster forecasting and early warning. The discussions highlighted the need to shift from a post-disaster response model towards a system focused on prevention and preparedness.

On the sidelines of the event, Ambassador Uyanga Ganbold met with Dr Raditya Jati, Deputy for Systems and Strategy at Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Authority and Chair of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management in 2026. On behalf of the people and Government of Mongolia, Ambassador Uyanga expressed her deepest condolences for the loss of life and damage caused by the recent natural disasters in Indonesia. The two sides exchanged views on reducing disaster risks and strengthening regional cooperation.
